The Thai-Belgian Bridge decorated to celebrate 150 years of Friendship
On the 5th of May 2018, BeLuThai, The Belgian-Luxembourg/Thai Chamber of Commerce, inaugurated the flag decorations of the Thai-Belgian Bridge.
Both countries celebrate 150 years of everlasting good relationship, since the signing of the first Treaty of Friendship and Trade in 1868.
During this very special year, BeLuThai, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, and the Chao Phya Abhai Raja Foundation decided to join hands in organizing a series of events and activities throughout the year. These activities cover a whole range of subjects, including diplomatic, academic, business and trade, as well as the civil society.
The decoration of the bridge, which features large size Thai and Belgian flags, emphasizes not only the good relationship between Thailand and Belgium, but also the friendship that links the Thai and Belgian Royal Families.
Mr. Philip Coates, the Executive Director of BeLuThai comments:
“This year is a milestone in the relationship between our two countries. And to mark this important occasion, BeLuThai decided to associate the celebrations with the most important symbol of Belgium in Thailand: The Thai-Belgian Bridge. Our countries have been on friendly terms for 150 years, and it was important for us to be part of this everlasting friendship. It also happens to be the 30th anniversary of the Bridge in Bangkok as it was inaugurated by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in April 1988.”
The project could not have been made possible without the invaluable help from Governor Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Mrs. Navaporn Klinbuakaew, Direcor Of Pathumwan District, the BMA department of Public Works and Mr. Marc Dehertogh, Managing Director of Faber Flags Asia Co., Ltd.
